Southern Blooms Florida Releases New ‘Mrs. Trudy’ Plumeria Cultivar to the Public

Southern Blooms Florida plant nursery is making its newly found cultivar, Mrs. Trudy, available for sale to the public from April 11, 2026.

The plumeria, which produces a velvety cranberry red, is a well-branching tree with 3-4 inch wide flowers. It produces an irresistible soft perfume-like fragrance.

Southern Blooms named the flower after founder, David Sweat’s mother, Mrs. Trudy Sweat, who passed away in October 2025.

“Mom was a very special person and I can’t think of a better way to honor her than with this beautiful plumeria,” David said.

David and Mac Garner, Grower, were able to successfully grow the plumeria in 2019, which has now produced three years of consecutive blooms.

“It’s widely known by growers that the mother plant, Scott Pratts, rarely seed, but now that we’ve had this great success, producing Mrs. Trudy, we’ve had so many people interested in procuring it,” Mac said.

Our customers will be able to purchase a 3g Mrs. Trudy cultivar at the April 11 Open House. Each plant is $75.
